Samsung’s Next Flagship Smartphone May Not Feature a Headphone Jack
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 It was a hot summer of 2018. The iPhone X had been on the market for a while and Samsung, with its Galaxy S9 almost fresh out of the oven, attacked Apple with ads of the most scathing in which those shortcomings of the iPhone and those that their flagships boasted. A year later, the Korean firm has released its new Note 10 and Note 10+ and things seem to have changed, so much so that those videos have disappeared from Samsung’s YouTube channel … but not from the Internet.
Samsung was one of the few companies that, along with LG, were still betting on the minijack, for giving users the option of using their lifelong headphones to listen to music on their mobile. The future is wireless, no doubt, but the high-end Koreans were the last stronghold for those users who still enjoyed wired headphones. The Note 10, therefore, hit the last nail with great force to close the tomb of the headphone jack.
With this touch of absurd humor Samsung laughed that the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X did not have a headphone jack and it was necessary to use a dongle. The video appears on YouTube as “Not available”, and it is not for less, because the Galaxy Note 10 lacks it, just as it did in its rugged launch the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Motorola, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, Google, HTC and even Nokia have followed this path, so the jack is close to becoming a beautiful memory of yesteryear.
The excuse to eliminate the jack? Speaking to The Verge, a Samsung representative says that the reason has been to add 100 mAh battery and improve the haptic engine (the vibration). There was no space for a jack, but let’s not forget that we talk about two mobiles that have a slot to store a pencil.
In short, wireless has won the battle, or so it seems. The big companies have already decided to close the door to the jack and Samsung has been the last to do so. LG and Google remain, who continue to mount it on their devices (see Pixel 3A and LG G8 ThinQ), but the question that can be asked is the following: if the company that sends more mobiles worldwide has decided to forget about the minijack, What reason is there to continue betting on him?
But it is not the only thing. The “InGenius” ad series also laughed at the iPhone X notch, and no, Samsung has not gone through the conventional notch ring, but it has implemented the notch on many of its devices. There we have the Galaxy M20, Galaxy A10, A20e, A50, A70 … And now the Note 10 and Note 10+ have a hole in the middle of the top of the screen to hide the camera.
And let’s not forget the video in which Samsung mocked that the iPhone did not support memory cards, because the Note 10+ is not. Or the video in which Samsung laughed that the iPhone had fast charging and needed a charger that did not come in the box, because the Note 10+ has 45W fast charging, but the compatible charger is sold separately.
