Each moment we live is unique and unrepeatable. No two moments are the same. However, we constantly tend to cloud what happens to us at every moment with judgments, opinions, ideas, expectations, feelings … and the moment we do this, we stop perceiving that moment as it really is; something never experienced.

Learning to perceive each moment from a clean look, without conditioning, leaving aside the old patterns will allow us to enjoy each moment in a fresh and new way. It is an attitude that we can put into practice in each and every facet of our life (with our family, friends, in our work, practicing the sport that we like, in our moments alone …). If we stop to observe our mind, we will realize that we constantly judge everything; “I like this, not this, this is good, bad, it is beautiful, ugly …”. The problem is that these judgments create a filter that does not let us see things as they really are, but rather as we think or interpret them to be.

Not judging is a fundamental attitude in the practice of mindfulness and, in fact, it is part of the definition that Jon Kabat-Zinn makes of mindfulness itself: “It is the consciousness that arises by paying attention deliberately and without judging the present moment”.

This does not mean that there are no trials. It simply means that, before a certain experience, we will be able to observe what thoughts, opinions or ideas arise with respect to it so that, from that point, we can discriminate and use our ability to see what is really happening. Cultivating this attitude will allow us, little by little, not to judge the experience or the present moment but only to recognize and understand it in its fullness.

When we speak of acceptance, we should not confuse it with resignation. It is as simple and “rational” as accepting what already is. What’s the point of not doing it? Does not accepting things as they are, makes them different? It is also important to understand that from that acceptance of what is, we will be able to work consciously and apply the actions that we believe are necessary to produce a change in our experience.

I give you a practical example: “Close your eyes and imagine that you have been told that you have lost your job. Think about the possible reactions you can adopt in this situation; one would be not to accept it, to think how unfair it is because you don’t you deserve it and deny it. Will it make you have a job again? What feelings and feelings do you think this option will generate in you? (frustration, impotence, anger, …) “.

Another option is to accept that at this moment the situation is what it is: I have been fired. I accept it as it is and, from there, I analyze the possible options that can help me and focus on detecting new opportunities.
