AR Glasses by 2020  Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the most successful analysts in the world around Apple. After predicting that the company will launch a new 16-inch MacBook Pro model and an Apple Display 6K in 2019, now Kuo offers us new details about one of the most interesting projects Apple would be preparing.

As collected in 9to5Mac, Apple’s augmented reality glasses would go into production at the end of 2019, although it is possible that they may be slightly delayed until the second quarter of 2020. This means that their presentation could be made later this year, but not go on sale until the middle of next year. A strategy that as our Applesfera colleagues comment would resemble what they did with the first-generation Apple Watch.

Apple Could Start Mass Production of its AR Glasses by 2020

With iOS 11, ARKit, the development SDK to make augmented reality applications, was introduced. This is a kit that takes advantage of the rear camera of the iPhone and iPad to show information superimposed with reality.

Last year with the arrival of iOS 12, those of Cupertino showed the second generation of ARKit. Confirming the interest that Apple has in this technology. However, the user experience is not as comfortable as it could be and this is where these smart glasses come into play that Apple prepares for the end of 2019, according to Kuo.

No details are known on how the shape of these glasses will be, but according to the analyst they will need the iPhone to work. According to Kuo, Apple’s glasses will act “essentially like a screen, with processing, rendering, connectivity and location services coming from the iPhone.”

Detailed Notes On Apple’s Augmented Reality Glasses Will Need The Iphone To Work And Begin Production In Early 2020 In Step By Step Order

According to another renowned Apple world analyst, Mark Gurman, these augmented reality glasses will arrive in 2020 with its own operating system and a dedicated chip to enhance its functions. It would be something similar to what Apple already did with the Airpods and its W1 chip or the S1 chip of the first Apple Watch.

This last product serves well to understand what type of device Apple could be preparing. The first generation of the smart watch depended completely on the iPhone for connectivity, a dependency that has disappeared over time. The Apple Watch had its own hardware but could not perform advanced operations without resorting to the phone, a situation that according to Kuo could be repeated with augmented reality glasses.

In order to function, these augmented reality glasses would need to house inside the screen to display information, the sensors to recognize the environment and the battery. If Gurman’s information is correct, he would have his own system to work. We will see how Apple’s smart glasses compare and to what extent they differ from current solutions. What it seems is that Apple’s augmented reality glasses are in their final stretch and point again to 2020, the same date that another source such as Bloomberg already gave a few years ago.
